PRESTIGIOUS SPOTTED AWARD SHORTLIST ANNOUNCED

Each season Spotted presents visitors to Top Drawer with the very best in new talent and emerging design, showcasing a variety of market-ready brands that buyers will have never seen before, with the September A/W19 presentation to be one of the most inspiring yet.

Now in its 4th edition, the Spotted Award has become a much-anticipated and loved element of the show. After much deliberation, the Spotted Award’s panel of judges, comprising of leading industry professionals from the likes of Tate Enterprises, The Conran Shop and Wolf & Badger, has chosen the eight brands who will go forward to the final judging, based on the following criteria: originality and innovation, commercial viability, clarity of brand and communication of message, and quality of the design.

Those shortlisted for the SPOTTED AWARD A/W19 are:

Be for Change (BFC)

Following the maxim that 'Waste is a Failure in Creativity', Ana Catarina Ferreira Carneiro set up Be for Change (BFC) to tackle the growing resources problem, sourcing materials wasted at industrial level and creating goods made to last. Her first product was a bag of fabric offcuts, designed to be large and sturdy - it lifts 60kg without breaking a thread. More bags followed; each a never repeated limited edition. Ana then applied the same approach to other materials while working with clients, and in 2019, BFC launched its leather collection. All up cycled leather goods are made in London, which allows the company to reduce its carbon footprint while ensuring the ethical treatment of workers.

Good & Craft

Good & Craft was founded in summer 2018 by Danja Good, who graduated with an MA in sustainable textile design at the University of the Arts London. Good & Craft is all about colours and maximalist patterns for interior collections. Their prints reflect the variety and beauty of nature and are sustainably made with attention to the environmental impact of the manufacturing processes. All the fabrics are printed in London, where the workshop is based, and the wallpapers are made in the UK on eco-friendly paper. The cushions are made at the studio.

Kind Bag

Maria Rodriguez set up Kind Bag in 2019 with a mission to reduce plastic waste by rescuing harmful bottles from the ocean and transforming them into beautiful, reusable bags. Based in the UK, Kind Bag is the first company to produce 100% recycled bags like these.

Lost Guides

Anna Chittenden launched the travel guide brand Lost Guides in 2016 after a successful crowdfunding campaign for her first book, Lost Guides – Bali. What started off as a website, thelostguides.com, featuring online travel guides, has now become a series of books (Lost Guides – Singapore, Lost Guides – Bali & Islands and Lost Guides – Tokyo & Beyond to coincide with the run up to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics), created for the stylish nomad with an interest in experience rather than expense and an eye for quality, design and authenticity. The books are a trustworthy source of curated places designed to enable the reader to have inspiring and memorable travel experiences, and eliminate tedious research. The books are lovingly produced with original photography and bespoke hand-drawn illustrated maps.

Panda Parker

Panda parker began her fashion label after graduating from Middlesex University and it wasn’t long before her addictive prints evolved into new products and lines. Today, her design studio combines bespoke prints and experimental textile fabrication, specialising in limited edition, artisan products that are hand illustrated and full of colour. Her range includes homewares, stationery and fashion accessories, including some made from vegan leather. Being proudly printed and made in the UK allows for monitoring of the creative process from start to finish, to ensure products are ethically produced to a high standard.

Sarah Dunbar

Sarah Dunbar creates bold, distinctive prints and her own range of handmade, faux leather pouches, coin purses and tote bags. Her debut collection, launched in July 2018, is inspired by her love of colour, art and nature. Each design originates from a photo or artwork created by Sarah. These photos or prints are then digitally developed and handcrafted into vibrant accessory products, making each one individual.

Tatie Lou

Founded by Louise Wargnier, Tatie Lou specialises in textiles and homeware. Louise’s new collection explores the ancient art of Shibori and has been created using naturally vibrant indigo dye and traditional binding and folding methods. The results are totally unique, every time. The collection, which is complimented by digitally printed items, ranges from bedding, cushions and lampshades to throws, wall hangings and wallpaper.

The Fox in the Attic

Michelle Kreussel first started making embroidered toys in 2011 with the idea of starting her own business. Two years later it had become her full-time job. The products are based around animals and nature and range from printed cushions and baby rattles to muslin swaddle blankets and burp cloths.

The winner and two runners up will be announced ahead of the show and all of the shortlisted brands will be showcased at the entrance to the Spotted zone in Pulse at Top Drawer from 8-10 September 2019 at Olympia London.
