Last Chance to Secure Tickets to The Benevolent Society Ball
The Benevolent Society, the charitable arm of the British Allied Trades Federation (BATF), will celebrate its 100th anniversary in style at the Grand Hotel Birmingham this December.
The Benevolent Society is sounding a last call for remaining tickets to the 90th edition of its Benevolent Ball, which is due to take place at the Grand Hotel Birmingham on Thursday, December 5.
This popular fundraising event will have special significance in 2024 as The Benevolent Society celebrates its 100th anniversary. The specific location of the event is also notable, as it was the Grand Hotel Birmingham that hosted the very first Birmingham Jewellers’ and Silversmiths’ Association Ball in 1933. The evening will include a three-course dinner and will be filled with entertainment, prizes, a charity raffle, auction and a few surprises to celebrate all The Benevolent Society has achieved and all those it has helped over the last century.
The Benevolent Society Chair Gay Penfold says: “We have been overwhelmed with support for this milestone edition of the Benevolent Ball, but there are still a handful of tickets remaining for members of the trade. This really is a festive networking event like no other, and I can’t wait to see how this year’s 90th anniversary edition unfolds on the night.”
This has been a busy 12 months for The Benevolent Society, incorporating a brand overhaul, a 100th anniversary dinner at the Tower of London, participation in a Goldsmiths’ North luncheon, and fundraising activities at both the UK Jewellery Awards and the National Association of Jewellers Awards. In more recent months, the Society has also partnered with the NAJ Educational Trust, which is celebrating its 30th year, to establish a silverware design and manufacturing competition. The winner of this coveted prize will be announced at the Benevolent Ball on December 5.
The Benevolent Society has also received significant support from third parties in 2024, including The Goldsmiths’ Company Charity, the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) and Beaverbrooks. This is in addition to the support from individuals and companies within the British Allied Trades Federation (BAFT), who regularly contribute through frequent donations or by adding a discretionary percentage to their membership fees.
Penfold adds: “Although we are heading into the festive season, The Benevolent Society won’t slow down. We currently have 42 beneficiaries who receive support monthly for their essential living costs. They will all receive an additional £300 throughout the coldest months of the year to help with increased utility costs. This is all part of our commitment to the Allied Trades and the people who have shown commitment and dedication to this great industry.”
Looking to the future, The Benevolent Society will continue to offer bursaries to deserving candidates wishing to enhance their careers, retrain and pursue new avenues of professional development. Since 2016, more than 90 bursaries have been granted, totalling £307,322.
