The EU's General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR), effective December 13, 2024, modernises consumer product safety standards across all member states. This regulation obliges businesses to uphold stringent safety, traceability, and reporting requirements, regardless of whether products are new, used, repaired, or sold online.
Key mandates include safety evaluations for new technologies, cybersecurity, predictive features, and special requirements for online marketplace providers. Manufacturers must conduct internal risk analyses and maintain technical documentation for a minimum of ten years. Products with substantial modifications that impact safety are subject to renewed compliance.
The GPSR also mandates traceability for high-risk products, accident reporting, and prompt consumer notification on recalls. Sellers, particularly on platforms like Amazon, must label products with a clear identifier and ensure visible compliance details, including manufacturer and EU economic operator contact information.
